Situated on the western coast of the Scottish Highlands, Achara Farmhouse is surrounded by stunning lochs and soaring mountains. It is two hours north by car from Glasgow, forty minutes north of Oban and thirty minutes south of Fort William.
The area is a cyclist’s paradise. The Caledonia Way - National Route 78 of the National Cycle Network - is a cycle route that runs from Campbeltown to Inverness along 235 miles of spectacular scenery. It passes by the end of the drive from Duror down towards Appin.
There are many beautiful walks directly from the house, including the forestry track up into Glen Duror.
The nearest beach is at Cuil Bay, one mile from the house
Some of the best hill walking in the UK is a short drive away. The house is surrounded by numerous munros and world-renowned climbs, including those at Glencoe.
One of the most iconic castles in Scotland, Castle Stalker, is a five minute drive away in Appin.
Castle Coeffin can be found on a rocky outcrop on Lismore Island, which is accessible via a small ferry from Appin.
Oban, the gateway to the Isles and famous the world over for its excellent whisky, is a forty minute drive south west.
Regular ferries and boat charters can be taken from Oban to the islands of Mull and Colonsay.
Glen Etive, shown below, is perhaps most recently recognised as the site of James Bond’s home in the film Skyfall. Glen Etive is a short drive on from Glencoe.
